Investing in OUR planet with Sea Hugger

We're at it again with our friends at Sea Hugger! We're proud to donate 10% of proceeds made of select eco-products when you build a BOXFOX to Sea Hugger for the month of April! We caught up with Cass Cleave to tell us more about Sea Hugger's mission, where our donations are going, and how to live a more sustainable life to invest in the future of our planet.

What’s Sea Hugger's Mission?

Sea Hugger is a nonprofit organization focused on protecting and healing the marine environment from plastic pollution through action and education to drive systemic change that addresses the root cause of the issue. Our mission is to educate the public to reduce plastic dependency, while focusing on protecting the marine environment, ensuring the intrinsic rights of aquatic life, and helping create sustainable communities that are no longer affected by plastic pollution.

What are the best /easiest practices to invest in our planet?

Set up your kitchen and bathrooms to reduce your plastic consumption. Switch to brands that allow for reusable packaging/bulk offerings, compost your food scraps, limit the items you purchase that are wrapped with plastic (those chemicals do leak into your food!). And, get outside and enjoy the beautiful nature around you.

We’re donating 10% this month for the month of April, where do the donations go?

Donation will go to our Water Skimmer Program in Half Moon Bay's Pillar Point Harbor in California.

What are Water Skimmers and why are they important?

Water Skimmers are like stationary Roomba's for the ocean. It is working 24/7 to suck in and filter litter and oil that is floating on the surface of the harbor's waters. It is built so that it can collect items like microplastic, bottle caps, discarded fishing debris, food wrappers, unidentifiable litter items, and oil. This is the last opportunity we have to rescue ocean-bound plastic that, if left, will harm the marine animals and ecosystem as a whole. The Water Skimmer is maintained e and has so far in the past 2 years collected 1,574 pounds of trash (which is made up of really small-sized pieces of litter)!
