The Art of Curation

The Art of Curation

Posted by Chelsea Moore on

Our team’s #1 goal is to create beautiful gifts that elevate any gift to a true experience. It’s why we’re always sourcing products from around the world and releasing new boxes throughout the year. For the recipient, an “experience” means it’s a moment to enjoy the gift—from every aspect of the packaging, to the surprise of receiving, to actually getting to use each and every item in the box. For the sender, the experience is with our site, our customer service, and resting assured that every gift they send will be packed with care at every step of the way.

One question we often get is “how does BOXFOX curate such special gifts?” It seemed like the perfect time to write this post, with the holidays in full swing. Whether you’re choosing one of our precurated gifts or building your own from our curated marketplace of gifts, here’s the skinny on what goes into the perfect custom curation by BOXFOX.

Keepsake Gifts

What would a gift be without items that are just, in a word, beautiful? Our favorite keepsakes include anything from a bare gold stacker from Nashville-based Consider the Wldflwrs, a Macaroon trinket box, or a luxe Olivine Body Perfume oil. Beyond what’s inside, we’re always getting feedback that our signature nude and matte black boxes are gifts in and of themselves—which is exactly what we want to hear! We designed them to hold anything from trinkets to postcards and everything in between.

Functional Gifts

You might have read in our story that we started this company for a friend that was sick with pneumonia. While we’re all about the keepsakes and unique finds, there’s something equally special about the essentials: an Honest Company nipple balm for a new mom, a Vitruvi Peppermint Essential oil for a stressed out friend, or a delicious Donuts & Coffee Compartes Bar for a friend who can use some pampering. Utility, in it's most beautiful form, is one of our most important filters. When presented with other items, these gifts are elevated to mean so much more.

Remember Me Gifts

There’s something so special about being a part of someone’s everyday through a gift that becomes a necessity. Whether it’s a gold wine opener that they use whenever they pop open a bottle of Pinot, a leather tray that lives on their nightstand, or a 2017 Desk Calendar that gets them through the daily grind, we love including an item or two that will linger much after they open their box.

I-Just-Know-You Gifts

We love hearing how the details of our customer's own relationships line up with our carefully curated product offerings. Whether it’s an inside joke or a well-documented obsession (ours: pineapples, geodes, and foxes, of course!), there are some gifts that just scream your recipient’s name. We love that so many of our notes include an explanation of each item, and how, without fail, the I-Just-Know-You Gift always involves a hilarious inside joke, story, or memory.

Soulful Gifts

A huge part of BOXFOX's soul is the unquenchable desire to be there for each other, even when you can't physically do so. The best gifts come straight from the soul—and sometimes the best way to express what someone means to you is with a beautiful book, whether it’s a coffee table stunner or a page turning novel. It’s why we always curate a selection of ever-changing books, which we call The Library. Other options? Luxe and decadent relaxation in a box, with our ALL FOR YOU. The perfect, uninterrupted morning in our IN THE MORNING and the most useful and meaningful next-level essentials in our HEAL box.
